Is Something Missing?

The last couple of years, I really felt as if the Christmas spirit is waning.

I moved south from the north over 30 years ago. My family would say, “ It’s the weather. It’s supposed to be cold at Christmas. “ That’s not it. When I first moved here, I recall holiday traditions, lights and decorations all over the malls and shopping centers, Christmas music playing and crowds of people.

Lately, I notice the shopping centers don’t decorate the way they use to. Going shopping as been looking like an ordinary day.

But then 30 years ago, there was no internet and no Amazon.

Don’t Lose Your Charm

One thing I truly enjoy are the small towns and city squares that still decorate and hold Christmas parades. This year, our town Christmas parade was cancelled due to inclement weather. The forecast said rain, but it didn’t. Better safe than sorry.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate for New Years Eve. That’s when our town will hold the annual Geranium Drop ( my hometown is the Geranium Capital of the World)

This year, the city of Atlanta will not host the Peach Drop for New Years. The news link above explains why. It used to be held at Underground Atlanta. I do know that area became a high crime area, so I can understand safety issues.

Then I found out about another tradition going away in Atlanta. See post below

Hopefully new traditions will emerge.

My point- hold on to your small towns and their traditions. Shop small businesses. And remember….Don’t Lose Your Charm

All hope is Not Lost

There are still some great family events and activities old and new
