As a teacher, I hear a lot of funny excuses. Students will blame anyone but themselves.
True story: I took a phone away from a student and wrote them up.
” I NEED MY PHONE ON ME!”
” Why?’
“In case my Grandma calls.”
” Why would Grandma call?’
” She might be in trouble”
” Oh, I see, So you’ll get the call, get up and hop into your car to go see her?” ( student is a 7th grader )
” Uh….Well….No?”
Later, in a conversation with the student’s parents, they shook their heads at each other.
“Your mom OK?”
“Yeah, is yours?”
“Yeah. …..AINT NOTHING WRONG WITH GRANDMA! WHY IS HE DRAGGING HER INTO THIS? OOOOO, WAIT TILL THEY GET HOME!!”
Student complied with the phone rule from then on.
